Antipodes celebrates another successful Singles’ Day in China

Thousands of Antipodes® natural skincare products have been dispatched to customers in China following another huge day of sales on its annual shopping extravaganza Singles’ Day.

The 24-hour online shopping event on 11 November generated a flurry of purchasing for the green beauty brand from New Zealand. The Antipodes® team in China worked around the clock to meet demand, with sales representing 55 percent growth on takings on its debut Singles’ Day sale last year. The spike in sales reflects the increasing awareness of the brand: consumers are appreciating that Antipodes’ formulations feature premium ingredients from nature grown in New Zealand’s pollution-free environment.

Singles’ Day is the biggest online shopping event on the planet. The one-day shopping spree takes place on Tmall, the online sales platform belonging to e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.

Alibaba reported that shoppers spent $17.79 billion in the 24-hour sales period. Purchases blew past $1.5 billion in the first seven minutes of the event, with consumers in some 207 countries purchasing items.

Antipodes® was New Zealand’s skincare first company to operate a flagship store on Tmall, opening in September 2015. Three of Antipodes® top-selling products were selected by Tmall for special promotion across its beauty category on the day: Apostle Skin-Brightening Serum, Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream and Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream. Its new skin-brightening duo of Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Light Day Cream and Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Eye Cream also proved wildly popular.

The hype before Singles’ Day – also known as Double Eleven – was massive, with a glitzy four-hour televised show counting down to the sale’s opening. Stars included Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, ex-England footballer David Beckham with his fashion designer wife Victoria, and retired NBA player Kobe Bryant, with live music from OneRepublic. There was also a virtual reality shopping experience and a stream of web broadcasts.

Antipodes® joined over 14,000 international brands ouside of China taking part in the sale, making up a third of the total brands discounted.
