The tall, flame-red blooms of harekeke or New Zealand flax attract the majestic tui with its glorious birdsong. Its nectar was once used to sweeten Māori food and we love that it brings sweet relief to skin. You'll find it growing abundantly in urban and rural areas in Aotearoa, especially in swamps and grassland.

For your skin, it is:
- softening
- a natural healer
- a powerful antibacterial.

The gum in the leaves of harekeke contains D-xylose and D-glucuronic acid. In addition, its seeds are rich in linoleic acid, while its roots contain chrysophanol and emodin (anthroquinones).
